Empower Women
Farmer groups in the project were required to be composed of at least 30% women. Most exceeded this benchmark, and many were led by women farmers or made up entirely of women farmers.

The gradual expansion of Forest Garden has brought more businesses and jobs to the farmers. It can permanently increase the income of poor farmers and provide permanent and seasonal employment opportunities.

TREES was founded in 1989 to fight hunger and eradicate poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Between then and 2013, TREES has planted over 100 million trees around the world and plans to plant one billion trees by 2030. How It Works
Along with our tree planting program, we also support the forest garden program. This is a four-year project to plant a variety of crops and trees. TREES staff provides seeds, equipment and training to farmers. Our goal at the end of the program is that each farmer establishes a forest garden that provides stable cash income, food security and enhanced natural resources through the restoration of degraded land.
