What Does A Man Wearing Earrings Mean?
Earrings for men have long been commonplace in today's society, but in the earliest days men started wearing earrings not for fashion, but for a number of other reasons. For example, among some tribes in the world, long earlobes were a symbol of beauty. For men, the ear is the center of wisdom, and wise men must have large ears. Heavy earrings or studs for men would pull the earlobe down to make it longer and the relative man wiser. The first men in Europe to wear earrings or male studs were sailors. They believed that piercing their ears would protect them from drowning. Later men wearing earrings and male studs were not only sailors, as men wearing earrings were considered a sign of homosexuality, and a number of code words arose, such as wearing male studs in the left ear for homosexuality and in the right ear for bisexuality, etc. However, with the huge popularity of rock stars, punk earrings also became popular. The act of men wearing earrings has completely lost its sexual aspect. It's all about personal interpretation of fashion and following trends, and no one will look at a man differently because he wears studs. Today we are going to discuss some issues regarding men’s earrings.
Types of Earrings for Men
Stud Earrings
A stud earring is an ornament on the ear that is smaller than an earring and is shaped like a nail. They are generally worn only through the ear piercing. The shape of the stud earrings varies widely, but they do not change the characteristic that the front of the earlobe is shaped like a stud, and the back of the earlobe is the back of the ear. Because they are small and light, stud earrings are comfortable to wear and suitable for any outfit. Diamond studs are a jewelry box essential and one of the most popular styles of earrings.
Hoop Earrings
Hoop earrings are shaped as a circle. Most regular hoop earrings are round, but there are some different shapes such as oval, square and triangle. In addition to the different shapes, there are also a variety of size options. Smaller hoop earrings are closer to the ear and create a discreet look. Larger hoop earrings, on the other hand, will have an active feel and are more able to stand out. Hoop earrings are worn from the front to the back of the earlobe around the ear. Some people feel that earrings with only one circle are too monotonous, so many small elements are added in, such as skulls.
Dangle Earrings & Drop Earrings
Dangle earrings and drop earrings literally mean the same thing, but in fact they are not the same. Dangle earrings hang below the earlobe. They come in many different lengths, some short and some long enough to touch the shoulder. Dangle earrings swing back and forth or to the sides as the wearer moves around. Drop earrings, on the other hand, don't swing as much as dangle earrings, they usually stay put, like an extended earring. Dangle or drop earring styles can be single chains that dangle from a hook from which an ornament, usually a gemstone or bead, hangs.
How to Choose Earrings
Although there are many types of earrings, few of them really fit. There are multiple factors to consider when choosing earrings, including skin tone and face shape.
-
Skin Tone
1.1 People with fair and delicate skin can handle many colors, including the most common gold and silver; people with fair but somewhat rough skin are better suited to wearing silver and white, and gold is perhaps less suitable.
1.2 If you have olive skin, then congratulations, you can wear any color earrings.
1.3 For people with dark skin, gold will make you look vibrant, but silver and white are also good.
If you are still not sure whether you are suitable for gold or silver, then you can use your body as a reference.
Generally speaking, warm skin tones suit gold, while silver is more suited to cooler skin tones. You can determine which skin type you belong to by looking at the color of the veins on the underside of your wrist. If they are blue in color, then you have cool skin; if they are more of a green shade, then you have warm skin tones.
-
Face Shape
Look for earrings that do not emphasize your features. If you have an oval shape, you can move round earrings. Round earrings are for men with square and curved faces, while straight earrings are for men with heart-shaped faces.
Conclusion
In general, the choice of men's earrings is mainly based on simplicity, such as stainless steel earrings, or earrings with only one diamond. There are also masculine earrings, geometric earrings, gothic earrings, mechanical earrings, etc. To sum up, there are two points for the choice of men's earrings. Lord, low-key is more masculine.

I had my ear pierced in 1978. At the time the saying was “Left is right and right is wrong”. People that wore the earring in the left side were part of the the party crowd and the right meant that the guy was gay. My girlfriend pierced my left ear and I have been wearing it since then. It was not a fad at the time and you were still a rebel when you wore it.
Fyi: Sailors/pirates received earrings as part of traditional ceremonies carried out at sea i.e., when crossing the equator, rounding the horn, sailing the seven seas, crossing the international dateline etc. They would receive their “rum ration” (usually 1/2 pint a day) and enjoy a bit of music and merriment. Then they would pierce the ears with a sail needle and a piece of cork/leather and using a loop made from what material the sailor had available be it gold, silver, iron, ivory or bone.
Thought you might like to know the real tradition.
